چکیده

As security threats advance in a drastic way, most of the organizations implemented multiple Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDSs) to optimize detection and to provide comprehensive view of intrusion activities. But NIDSs trigger a massive amount of alerts even for a day and overwhelmed security experts. Thus, automated and intelligent clustering is important to reveal their structural correlation by grouping alerts with common attributes. We propose a new hybrid clustering model based on Improved Unit Range (IUR), Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and unsupervised learning algorithm (Expectation Maximization) to aggregate similar alerts and to reduce the number of alerts. We tested against other unsupervised learning algorithms to validate the performance of the proposed model. Our empirical results show using DARPA 2000 dataset the proposed model gives better results in terms of the clustering accuracy and processing time.

Alert correlation and prediction using data mining and HMM

Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) are security tools widely used in computer networks. While they seem to be promising technologies, they pose some serious drawbacks: When utilized in large and high traffic networks, IDSs generate high volumes of low-level alerts which are hardly manageable. Accordingly, there emerged a recent track of security research, focused on alert correlation, which ext...

Using Unsupervised Learning for Network Alert Correlation

Alert correlation systems are post-processing modules that enable intrusion analysts to find important alerts and filter false positives efficiently from the output of Intrusion Detection Systems. Typically, however, these modules require high levels of human involvement in creating the system and/or maintaining it, as patterns of attacks change as often as from month to month. We present an al...

Presentation of an efficient automatic short answer grading model based on combination of pseudo relevance feedback and semantic relatedness measures

Automatic short answer grading (ASAG) is the automated process of assessing answers based on natural language using computation methods and machine learning algorithms. Development of large-scale smart education systems on one hand and the importance of assessment as a key factor in the learning process and its confronted challenges, on the other hand, have significantly increased the need for ...
